About this Project

1907 Swedish doctors society formed its medical-history section with the intention to create a Swedish forum for medical history. One year later, they celebrated its centenary with an exhibition at the Nordic Museum. From the outset, they gathered medical historically interesting objects to preserve them for posterity. 1943, the collection had grown so that they could make a major exhibition in the Nordic Museum's great hall. The exhibition was a huge success, but the collections were then again without premises until the company Stille-We

rner in 1955 allowed Medical History Museum to move inte its house on Åsögatan which first showed a permanent exhibition. Museum, and collections subsequently grew out of the house, were managed by the Medical History Museum support association until 1991 when the County Council took over ownership and in 1995 the museum moved to the newly renovated former Eugenia's Home at the Karolinska Hospital. Today, the Museum of Medical History, unfortunately, closed after a decision by the Cultural Board. The collections are in a storage warehouse.
