About this Project

St Johannes Church, consecrated May 25, 1890, is located at the top of the ridge Brunkeberg in Stockholm. Here was a funeral chapel built in 1651, when the place was the cemetery for the Jacob-Johannes parish. Already in the second half of the 1600s there was a discussio

n about building a stonechurch, but it was not until the 1770s that Gustav III:rd gave permission to build a church. The assignment to design the church went to Jean Eric Rehn and September 14, 1783 the spade was in the ground to build a new church in the classical style
