St Peters basilica - The Portico (or Atrium) has five large entrances from the piazza, and five corresponding doors leading into the Basilica. Between the door are four stone slabs with ancient and modern inscriptions, and on the floor are papal coats of arms. At its ends the Portico has two vestibules, which house eight statues in niches, and at th
e ends the equestrian statues of Constantine (north) and Charlemagne (south). The ceiling is decorated with stuccoes of scenes from the life of St Peter, and in the lunettes are thirty-eight statues of Sainted Popes. Above the central entrance is the famous mosaic Navicella of Giotto, and on the opposite wall is the relief Pasce Oves Meas by Bernini
